PRISON MINISTRY
Holy Rosary Church has an active prison ministry. Volunteers from the parish regularly visit both Maplehurst and Vanier correctional facilities which are both located in Milton. Maplehurst is one of the largest prisons in the province. Maplehurst is a prison for men and Vanier is for women.
The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the Gospel of Matthew (25:34-40) and include giving food to the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming a stranger, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and coming to see those in prison. In Jesus’ words those who do these things to one of the least of our brethren do it to Him. Again in Matthew (5:7) we read “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”.
Pope Francis placed a special emphasis on ministering to those in prison and to quote Bishop Crosby he took the extraordinary step of naming the threshold of each jail cell a Holy Door of Mercy.
If you are interested in learning more about this important ministry and perhaps joining our dedicated group of volunteers please call Mike Darling at 905-876-2997 or the Parish Office at 905-878-6535.

A Request from a Chaplain at Maplehurst Prison:
Since you are not able visit Inmates One to One or lead Chapel programs, I want to suggest something that you can do for MHCC Inmates. The children of your Synagogues, Mosques, Churches or Faith Communities can draw or paste together pictures to lift the spirits and hopes of Inmates and staff during this Emergency. The children, who are now Social/Physically isolating, could draw pictures on pieces of paper that are 8”x11 to a maximum size of 24”X 30”. In these drawing the Children can color what they have learned about COVID-19 during this Pandemic or what they are thankful for through this time. Please tell the children not to write their names on the pictures or place any identifying information on their gift. These pictures must be anonymously sent. They will be approved by Security before they are posted.
